I work as a psychic medium. Which means I get a ton of people who desire a different lifestyle but can't seem to figure out what they are doing wrong and how they can make a change. Transformational change is possible, maybe not easy or fun. But do-able!
The first step to interrupting a negative lifestyle pattern is identifying what you do on a daily basis that supports the bad habit. You also want to know why you do that. Or what your reasoning is. To figure it out if it isn't obvious you can meditate or brain storm some to get to the root of it. So plan now for some alone time to gather your thoughts on it.
Once you have established the problem and what might be contributing to it you can then make a conscious decision to quit the old pattern and habit that supports it. I remember one of my excuses was I wanted my step son to have warm and fuzzy memories of home. So I felt I needed to bake cookies in the afternoon so the house would smell good and he would know there were fresh baked cookies when he walked in. Of course I had to help him celebrate the end of the school day too. Which didn't help either one of us really.
If you feel you have to fix junk food for other members of the family who for some reason shouldn't feel deprived because "you" are on a diet. Think it on through. We raise race horses. When I plan their diet I don't ever feel sorry that they are not getting fresh baked cookies. I only put food in front of them that has great nutritional value. Their treats are organic carrots, water melon, apples. They are not over weight, never have acme or zits. Plus they love healthy treats. I always wondered why it was so easy to be strict with their meals and crazy with mine.
In my martial arts training I studied a lot of the masters and Bruce Lee was a huge influence on me. He was so thoughtful about what went into his body. He called it feeding the Dragon. The Dragon is the body and the fighting spirit to win. His philosophy was you are either feeding the Dragon or starving it.
By making a Decision to feed and nourish the body. Then Taking Action by following through and bring good things into the home. You put things into motion to get a different Result!
Here are my 5 Tips to Break the bad and start the good!
1. Interrupt the pattern doing some thing different with what ever supported the old one. In this case you go to the store with a list of healthy choices to feed and nourish the family. Don't even buy the junk. Don't feed the old habit.
2. Start a new habit or plan, get a healthy program to follow for at least 21 days to get you, your mind and your body on board for a new life style. 21 days is a perfect time frame to break an old habit and then start a new one. You can do it in the same 21 days. I have some 21 day programs on my marveena site.
3. Post reminders all the house, the office, on your smart phone with alerts, on your calendar, the bath room mirror. Tell your friends and family too.
4. Get rid of what sabotages your dream. If that is a "best"friend don't talk to them for a long while. If it is left over Christmas junk food then throw it out. Don't worry about the "starving" children in Africa because that peanut brittle won't nourish them either. This is what I would call a pain tape that was put into place by some one that helped mold your ideas about life and your place in it. Grandma would say "there are little kids starving in Africa, so eat this meal". It made a lot of us feel guilty if we didn't clean up our plate. We have to break that cycle!
5. Reward your self at the end of a successful new change day. Not with junk food, maybe a nice herbal tea with some Raw Orange Blossom honey.
